Yin Yoga is designed to promote flexibility in areas we often perceive as inflexible: hips, pelvis and hamstrings. Performed in a non-heated room, the postures are held between three to 10 minutes to encourage the connective tissues, ligaments and joints to open up and deliver a deep, safe stretch. Props are provided, including bolsters, straps, sandbags and blocks to help create a comfortable, meditative environment. The class is 60 to 75 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.
Hence Chinese philosophy, Yin Yoga complements the dynamic yang styles of the Hot Hatha and Hot Flow. A regular Yin practice will not only bring flexibility to muscle tissues, but improve mobility in joints. Underused connective tissues shorten overtime, limiting the range of motion.
